Alongside our work developing the Glasgow 2026 brand, Games’ organisers asked us to help launch The King’s Baton Relay (formerly The Queen’s Baton Relay), and to present the new sustainable vision for the both the Relay and the Baton itself.
For the first time, the Baton was designed using only simple, sustainable materials. And rather than a single Baton travelling through all 74 Commonwealth nations, each nation received its own and was invited to customise it. Instead of moving continuously through streets, Batons were brought each day to community events as part of a new hub-and-spoke format.
Our first film looks at the making of the Batons, drawing parallels to Glasgow’s Clyde-built heritage. Each of the 74 Batons was designed and handcrafted close to the historic Govan shipyards, using reclaimed wood from fallen trees in the city’s Pollok Park. Our second film marks the moment these Batons leave for their respective nations, as the journey to Glasgow 2026 officially began.
