UK town centres are struggling to compete with online shops and malls. Stand designed an app to help four Scottish towns encourage communities (and visitors) back to their high streets. We took the opportunity to think bigger - building a platform that will grow stronger as more towns adopt it.

UK town centres are struggling to compete with online shops and malls. Stand designed an app to help four Scottish towns encourage communities (and visitors) back to their high streets. We took the opportunity to think bigger - building a platform that will grow stronger as more towns adopt it.

Discover

We talked with groups from each of the four ‘launch’ towns and with the local Council. We learned that UK town centres doing well are those which treat retail as part of a wider range of activities, facilities and services.

Develop

We designed a mobile app that takes a town’s intangible, splintered offer and succinctly captures it in one digital platform. Our app collects and promotes groups, clubs, businesses, events and even interactive history trails.

Deliver

Prior attempts to capture local communities proved difficult to maintain, so we built insideOut around user-generated content. This community based co-creation approach is what led to the ‘insideOut’ name and brand.
