1 in 10 people have experienced child sexual abuse or exploitation. The memory and the weight of such an experience is hard to carry. But for many, speaking out was the positive first step that changed the course of their lives. By featuring victims and survivors who know the power of opening up, our campaign gives them a platform to encourage others to do the same.

Discover

Via our client, CSE Taskforce, we were able to speak to people with lived experience and capture genuine, candid insight into their struggles, the process they went through and, ultimately, how speaking out helped them. We felt that their words, and their advice, could help other victims feel seen and convince them to take that next step.

Develop

Our film acknowledges that this ‘next step’ is different for everyone. It features a broad range of voices who all bring different stories and perspectives to the table. It highlights the supportive network that already exists within the victim and survivor community and explains how this can be accessed – whenever the person is ready.

Deliver

The film was developed over several months with our partners at Forest of Black, as we recorded, curated and edited hours of audio from our conversations with victims, before knitting this together and setting it to picture. We also designed and developed a campaign website, which links off to the resources our audience may need.

“We had feedback straight after the show – callers calling the BBC helpline this morning, hundreds of people viewing the website, and the Marie Collins Foundation have received a first disclosure to their helpline. I’m just so pleased it’s already having an impact.”
