In summer 2026, for the first time in a generation, Scotland jet off to the FIFA World Cup. And for a second time, we host the world at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Two historic events, home and away. One seismic opportunity to capitalise on the energy, excitement, and inspirational moments they’ll bring.
That’s why Scottish Government are investing £20m in the 2026 Summer of Sport. An initiative, delivered by sportscotland, providing free and low-cost activities for 3-26 year olds up and down the country, making sport more accessible to more young people than ever before.
Game On, our nationwide above-the-line campaign, harnesses public pride and enthusiasm for these major events to encourage more young Scots to get active. As a phrase, it speaks to the whole nation – we love a challenge, we pull together when it matters most, and we always get stuck in.
We also created a toolkit to help Local Authorities and Sporting Bodies communicate the practicalities of where and when people can get involved – bringing the games to life, and leaving a lasting impact, throughout every community.
